Too Many Mark Fergusons

I've noticed that in many cases people with blogger blogs pop up on top with Google. Not me, seems that there are too many other Mark Fergusons out there. From Professors to Lord of The Rings actors, I'm in a competitive field here! Perhaps if I blog about Mark Fergusons I'll get up the rankings.

Here goes!

Chakkilam Infotech

So, time for a new job.

Why Chakkilam? First and foremost, it's about the people. I was out in Hyderabad last week checking things out, and they were checking me too! We all agreed that there is a sea change in the outsourcing and offshoring business. Cheap is not just the driver. Value for money is what sets the agenda today. That means providing an agile service to our clients and being able to offer the services that people need, not just services that make good marketing collateral. And we can still offer a price that beats the competition! And, if you are still sceptical, take up out try before you buy offer. Contact me for details!

What's getting attention today? Looks like cloud computing, security, interoperabilty and portability are picking up. As well as that, performance testing, especially distributed web load testing, is still a hot topic. And a speciality of ours!

Look forward to talking to you!

Who is smith_www777@yahoo.com?

smith_www777@yahoo.com got hold of my gmail account for a few days. As far as I can tell, it started when ebay sent me an account reminder. Since then, email to my gmail account got forwarded to this joker. I think I've sorted it now, but I'm sure there is some damage to repair.

Make Money Fast on Facebook !!!! Even if you're retarded!!!

There are an awful lot of links down the right hand side of Facebook for 'Making Money Fast!!!!', or whatever. They all seem to be pretty much the same. Google is going to pay you $$$$!!!! for posting links. Why didn't I think of that! Perhaps it's because I don't TYPE EVERYTHING IN CAPITALS AND USE LOTS OF EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't say for certain, because I'm not daft enough to sign up, but I think that you essentially get some info on how Google AdSense works and how to sign up for it. The sneaky (dishonest, in my mind) is that you have to send $1 (some small amount anyway) for this info. Of course this is just to cover shipping and handling, it's not trying to rip you off for $1 is it? That would be silly. No, they're looking to rip you off for somewhere bewteen $25 - $40 a month until you spot the transaction on your credit card. There is always somewhere on the payment page, a tiny paragraph telling you that the $1 is a promotional fee for joining their club. Thereafter you get stung for the monthly $$$ until you opt-out.

I've got a funny feeling that opting out won't be as easy as opting in! And guess what, it won't be you making the $$$$$!!!!!!! out of Google scams.

Looks like M&S are trying to attract a hitherto ignored market segment.

Changing ports on Oracle 10g

I'm trying to get a VM setup for HP Quality Center (QC) and I've installed Oracle 10g XE as the database. Unfortunately QC uses port 8080 and so does 10g XE. Luckily, I found this snippet on how to change the port on 10g XE using sqlplus:-

SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Tue Aug 26 10:40:44 2008

Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.

SQL> connect
Enter user-name: system
Enter password: <enter password if will not be visible>
Connected.
SQL> Exec DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(9090); [Assuming you want to have HTTP going to this port]

PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

SQL>quit
Disconnected from Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production

Lovely! Didn't have to fiddle about in the internal of QC. Always something to be avoided if at all possible!

Michael Winner

That Michael Winner nearly ran me over in London. To be fair, it was his chauffeur that nearly ran me over. Still, how can I hold a grudge against a chauffeur? Better to hold a grudge against the employer. Michael, how dare you!

I only remembered this because Michael turned up on a advert on the telly and they are really annoying.
